“Data is the new oil.” — Clive Humby
This entry will be all about data! This is the most fundamental thing you should understand if you want to learn about information systems. Everything we put on the internet is considered data, and it is saved. There are numerous things that we can study from all of the data on the internet for our benefit. However, as getting a connection is becoming easier, even in remote areas, it is no longer difficult to set up a connection (internet), data is increasing day by day. As a result, data management has become much more difficult. However, in this posting, I will concentrate on data management in an organisational setting.
Do you know why data management is becoming more challenging nowadays? To begin with, data grows exponentially over time because previous data must be kept for future reference and new data is always being added to the database. For example, a large retail store may need to keep product, customer, and sales historical data in order to examine trends or patterns to aid in decision making. Aside from that, data might come from a variety of sources, including internal, external, and personal sources. Internal data in an organisational environment can be firm documents and corporate databases, external data can be commercial databases and government reports, and personal data can be thoughts and experiences. Data must be filtered and analysed before it can be used as information.
As a result, we require data governance. But what exactly is data governance? Data governance is how we will handle the organization's massive amount of data. It is a systematic collection of business processes and rules for handling data in a well-defined manner that a company must adhere to while creating, handling, and safeguarding its data. The organisation need data governance in order to make information accessible, visible, and valuable to those who need it to make decisions.
